25-30hp would run one with no problem.

Power requirement for them starts at 15Kw.

They are incredibly fast on pulp size wood, first time anyone sees them working, it's the speed that they all comment on. On fresh cut wood they are not messy, but doing pallets and joinershop scraps really makes a bit of a mess.

Wonder if its possible to get just a shear wheel for the bilke rather then the standard blade it comes with that splits the wood as well. Would be a weapon for processing billets, so much faster then any bench saw, might even outdo one of those auto roto saws.

Is it true the main bearing is €1000? Talking to a few owners I have heard they are not cheap to run?

Pity as I was thinking it would be an ideal component to my little business

:001_huh: That does sound excessive!, but then it is a very large and unusual bearing, as its on the outside of the cutting wheel (well at least I think it much be) if the oil flow is kept correct I would have thought they will have a long life?

I hope so anyway, as I have just bought a Bilke.

I can't understand why log customers are so bothered about appearance? They are throwing it on a fire to keep warm ffs, within seconds it's appearance is about the same as any other log! Good looking machine though.

I have a customer who every year drives 50 miles in her Porsche Cayenne to buy £50 worth of kilned Silver Birch from me. She makes a display with it.

Presentation is important, I have lost clients due to to much crap when I was cutting Chestnut.
