Giant Coast Redwoods ~ a Must-See ~ 2015

Adam, we're doing another road trip this time round. We found, as long as you stay clear of the bigger centres, travelling is cheap. Way cheaper than staying in hotels in the big cities. Plenty of good road side diners. Eating at restaurants is pricey due to the tipping but get the smaller diners, food carts etc. fuel is also way cheaper than in NZ but best of all; the Americans are polite and helpful and always keen to show off their country and have a yarn. We're already working in the next trip after this one and that's gonna be a cross country road trip.

Thats what I've heard to.

Sounds like a great trip..another day for me.

Great image Mario, fantastic light !

Can you see the redwood forests along the coast from a sailing/boat perspective?

.

Spruce tend to grow better close to the ocean, but there are several places where the redwood forest can be seen from the ocean. The harbor I posted, and various places near there on the water, the upper hills of Jedediah Smith Redwoods and Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Parks are visible.

From the ocean, I don't think most people would know which evergreen species they were looking at a couple miles or kilometers distant. But the forest and tops are visible in places.

Here is a "Hobbit House" in Prairie Creek redwoods

That's beautiful shot Mario.

99% of the images I post in the redwood topics are usually redwood coast ... but here is an interjection of two portraits that were done en-route to the Coast Redwoods a few weeks ago. In Wolf Creek, Oregon, near Grants Pass, about 1.5 hours away. This is the father of the woman in the next post. He helped move lights for me and also does photography. One of my favorite men photos taken so far.

This woman is the daughter, a bikini competitor and fitness trainer whom I photographed in the Rogue River a few months ago. Here, sort of a "western" theme outfit.

Someone else asked if I could photograph their family among redwoods ... so that sometime in March on my next trip.

Some awesome pictures of the Sequoia :001_smile:

@ mdvaden- Are you familiar with what the employment needs are for management or indeed study of Coastal Redwoods in the USA? I'm currently working towards a degree in Arboriculture, and i've a very strong interest in Cupressaceae, in particular Sequoia, and would love an opportunity to work with them in some shape or form.

I appreciate you may not be able to answer this, but you don't know if you don't ask :)
