how secure are roller doors?

You don't need doors at all. The two things that people hate are electricity and snakes. All you need is a sign saying

"Beware of large electric snakes"

You can now leave things unlocked and get a nice holiday out of your cancelled insurance policy as no one will nick anything anymore - honest!

How big should the sign be?:laugh1:

If you want a secure shed/door, you need a good steel frame building with concrete panels 4 high and a sliding door consisting of concrete panels on rollers in a steel frame that can only be opened by means of a winch or hydraulic rams that need electricity to work them. Isolate electric when your not there and they would be doing well to get in. Personnel doors are usually a weak point, if you do make one it needs to be very narrow so you can just squeeze in then only small items can be taken but as long as your door is as above with good locks or hydraulic locks they wont open it. Failing that put a caravan there and offer free rent for someone in return for a bit of security.

I've got roller doors on the full width tool box behind the cab and between the tipper on my iveco van, roller door each side.

I often wonder how secure they'd be at stopping someone getting at my gear?

Probably more secure than the padlock securing them. Bolt cutters are quiet, stihl saws less so.

I don't like to leave anything in vehicles, not on a job and definitely not overnight. I take saws and blowers into a garden cos they're vulnerable whilst everyone is round the back.

But saying that, we were on a site in Liverpool this year, no-one on site but us and the project manager. Some scrote managed to slip under the the heras fencing, crawl through the long grass up to our re-fueling/gear storage position and grab a strimmer. He was seen and made off like his a@@@ was on fire, with five angry tree lads in tow:lol::lol:

All you can do is make it hard, very hard, to thieve off you.
