whats the strangest place you have seen roots

i was talking to one of our ex tree officers about a root pruning job he had given me and he said he had seen roots grow under a guy floorboards so much so that when you take the carpet up you could see then and on another callout he had seen root growing behind the back of some couple fireplace behind a gas fire lol

on the top of the peak district moorlands roots were being washed out along a gully side BGS who i was surveying with at the time thought it was several thousands of years old, and had be preserved by the bog! it look quite fresh for its age!

This man is Thomas. Came from Germany last Spring to the redwoods. We were exploring and one trail goes past a Hemlock with a root snaking sideways about 40 feet. Part of it is visible here.

 

Roots are common on logs, but not usually this exposed in the air. The bark decayed years ago.

Figure there has to be some rooting involved here......freaky or what, I wonder how much oxygen it could pump out.....

 

The roots grow into the logs, often under extending under the bark. The one in the image above eventually roots into the ground where the log rests on soil.

 

Here is one more that reminds me of "The Claw" thing that Jim Carrey did in some movie:
