Hiring a chipper with operator I could understand but requiring someone with a CS31 to do the job for you makes me curious as to the type of business you are running as it suggests you are not qualified to do the job yourself. If you are not qualified then I assume you are not insured either so the person who does it would require their own insurance too which makes me wonder what your role is in this job.

From the sounds of it, you could be opening yourself up to a complete nightmare. If you have no experience, then you cannot say for sure if a tree needs dismantling or felling (even smallish trees sometimes cannot be straight felled safely).

I would suggest that you abandon your plans to start a business and go and get some experience (and tickets) working for someone else. After a few years you might be in a position to think about starting up on your own, but without knowing what you are doing, you are heading down a road that will ultimately lead to a lot of unhappy customers and a lot of unpaid invoices. Miserable for all parties.

Maybe his business is aimed at landscaping, hedgetrimming and such like, (he hasn't detailed his area of operations). Someone has approached him regarding some tree works, and as a new start up, rather than turning work away, he just wants to sub contract the work out, so that he can satisfy the customer. I can't see anything wrong with that in principle.
