mm..INTRESTING.

 

Looks like some sort of adaption to growth. Maybe when the trees were saplings the leaders were lost or bent by wind and now they are growing back to the upright poistion. Claus matteck talks about trees adapting to wind movements. Maybe the saplings were open to strong winds in their youth , got bent grew outwards and then as we know they correct their growth to grow upwards towards the light.

 

Thats what i would say has happend.
