I currently have a stihl hs86 with a 40inch bar, for rough cutting. I.e. not the fine blade.

stihl in their infinate wisdom no longer do a bar that length unless its for fine trimming.

I need to replace it, and was wondering if the husqvarna equivalent was worth a punt?

 

Does that say HS 85.

Not at all, I treat my tools with respect and look after them. The build quality on the Echo long reach hedge cutters I have is not as good as the stihl long reach cutters. It's like a ford and an Audi!

HA! thanks. its my garage at home which i am currently clearing out and converting the back as an offfice to free up a bedroom ready for a new arrival in april dont normally keep any tools here

 

yes it is an 85 i get discombobulated sometimes.

still not sure why they dropped this length but not the fine cut?

I've recently bought a long arm husky hedge cutter and have not had any problems with it. Really nice piece of kit. So would imagine the smaller one is as good.

I used to buy echo machinery but nearly every tool I had gave up within a year or two, I agree with Hodge, the build quality and reliability is poor, although in terms of performance/comfort/low vibration/etc I cant complain.
