Arborist representing Great Britain in the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series World Championship.

Self-employed arborist and lumberjack sports athlete, Chris Pratt from Bedfordshire (pictured back row right), has been selected for the GB team travelling to Austria this week to compete in the 2014 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series World Championship. The event takes place at the Olympiahalle in Innsbruck, on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th November 2014.

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® is considered the major league of lumberjack sports worldwide, testing athletes’ strength, endurance and skill in a series of thrilling, high-octane chopping and sawing events. The culmination of a year of TIMBERSPORTS® competition world-wide, the World Championships will bring more than 100 athletes representing 20-plus nations to compete in both team and individual competitions in the tenth STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series World Championship event.

2014 is the third successive year that Chris Pratt has been a member of the Great British STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® team, and his selection this year comes after his success at the 2014 British Championship. Chris won the Stock Saw event at the British Championship – one of the six challenging disciplines of STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®. The Stock Saw sees athletes use a factory-standard STIHL MS 661 C-M chainsaw to cut two clean cuts off a log in the quickest possible time. Chris’s profession as a self-employed arborist certainly comes to the fore in this discipline, where he can clearly use his expertise in handling a chainsaw. As a GB Team member, Chris will take part in the World Championship’s team relay event, starting Great Britain’s bid with that high speed Stock Saw. He will then pass on to his other team mates to complete the remaining three disciplines in the fast and furious relay event. Alongside Chris will be 2014 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® British Champion, Rob Chatley (Worcestershire) – who will also compete for individual honours, plus Forestry Manager, Simon Bond (Denbighshire) and Elgan Pugh (Gwynedd), with Andrew Evans (Gwynedd) taking the reserve spot.

The 2014 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series World Championship takes place at the Olympiahalle, Innsbruck, Austria – two-times host of Winter Olympics’ figure skating and ice hockey events. The Team Event is on Friday 14th and Individual Championship final on Saturday 15th November.

STIHL GB wishes Chris and the Great British Team the best of luck for clean cutting and good competition.
