Selling Yew trimmings

Todays job was to trim and then reduce by a foot a yew hedge. I knew there were companies that took yew clippings but I didn't know they paid for it. Anyhow I got in touch with a company called friendship estates who asked when we were trimming then arranged to send a van to collect. They are fussy in that they only take the clippings from one years growth but they come and rake it, bag it, weigh it and leave you a receipt. Payment is buttons (35p per kg) but I should get £40 I didn't have this morning for stuff that would have ended up going through the chipper plus the knowledge that I am helping in the fight against cancer.

They say they operate country wide so anyone trimming yew they might be worth looking up.

We used to do just that for a French Pharmaceutical company . We would just cut yew hedges all day , nothing else . At that time weve were getting over a £1 a kilo . We cut it onto a tarp , bagged it in builders bags and took it back to the base . They supplied the van and paid us when we weighed in . We cut the hedges for free so as to make sure we got the job every year . As the price per kilo dropped we then had to charge the hedge owner and eventually it became not worth it .

Def wouldn't have them raking on site! Next thing would be client wanting the money from the clippings!

They've never said to me they'll rake it, usually say collect it on sheets and store somewhere cool
