it i a classic case of use it or lose it! he has used and hasn't lot it. chance are that if he had retired earlier and had a less active lifestyle then he may not be in the current health he is in now. that an a very humble perspective on life have made the man how he still is today.

 

great story.

You don't stop doing things because you get old, you get old BECAUSE you stop doing things!!

 

When I had the bike shop, we had old guys who rode their bikes every where, they would could come in each year and get a rear sprocket one tooth bigger for their Sturmey Archer three speed (to lower the gears) they would catch a cold, be off their bikes for a week and die:sad:

 

The cycling was keeping them alive, IMHO.

i often grab the axe and go and cut down a tree, havent done it for a wee while though. brings things into perspective, especially if its a dead elm, i have seen me hacking away for an hour, blinded with sweat in a rage wishindg i had never started, but when that old girl starets to creak and crack. yehaa. what a buzz and sense of achievement:001_cool:
