Will the data be protected or shared by third parties? Compiling a list of individual/company machines and equipment will be a valuable commodity and also in the wrong hands a shopping list of who to rob.

The privacy policy and the terms of use are available for you to read on the website...:sneaky2:

They'll tell you that (in line with the law) the data gathered may not be shared with third parties without permission.

Even if it did get stolen copied hacked or what not, the registration does not involve any details of where you are at all.:001_smile:

Arbtalk launches new stolen equipment register

[xfloat=right]http://www.arbtalk.co.uk/images/arbsafe.png[/xfloat]

We are very pleased to announce the launch of the industries first asset management and stolen equipment register. Following the ever increasing theft reports on Arbtalk over the years, it became clear that there was a growing need to present this information in a more orderly and easily accessible format.

With Arbsafe we have done just that. An intuitive user interface makes it possible for anyone to register and add any manner of equipment within minutes. Our secure new website allows provision for managing your business assets privately, as well as displaying your stolen assets publicly.

And if the FREE use of this service isn't enough to tempt you, Our main sponsor for the Arbsafe initiative STIHL GB, have kindly offered a prize of £500 worth of Stihl clothing or accessories. All you have to do is register and upload at least 1 asset before October 31st to be automatically entered into the prize draw.

What does Arbsafe offer?

  • Arbsafe is FREE and SECURE
  • Arbsafe provides a publicly searchable database of stolen equipment registered with the service
  • Supported by the industry
  • View recent thefts on our theft hotspot map
  • Sign up for notifications of recent thefts, potentially alerting you to any increased criminal activity in your area

We realize beside security precautions, there is very little we can do to prevent theft, what we can do is work together to raise awareness of the problem. One of the goals of Arbsafe is to make the resale of stolen equipment harder. This can only be done through mass adoption of the Arbsafe initiative so we encourage you to please spread the word and help us make a difference together!

this is awesome.

and i can see with a decent uptake from the start it will be a big success. when stuff does get nicked everyone will go "was it registered on arbsafe?!?"

some kit will probably go abroad but the chances of getting it back will increase and make selling decent kit on riskier and harder.

Sorry to put a dampner on it, but I thought stihl had a much debated face to face handover policy to make sure their customers got the very best service. What's happened to that stihl???????

Stihl have been very supporting of this project from the start, and are carrying on with their support with ongoing marketing efforts. Other than that, I fail to see how your post is in any way relevant or called for.

Thanks

As Rover has already correctly answered. No this data will not be shared with anyone. With regards security, we have done everything we can including adding SSL encryption on the site. We have also kept the amount of information required for registration to a bare minimum for this very reason.
