Insuring a Unimog

So we recently purchased a unimog U1200 full ag spec registered as ag vehicle etc. When I went to insure it with NFU on a trctor policy I was told it couldn't be done due to it being used for a tree and landscaping business. This means that I have had to put it on our fleet policy which is fine but is more expensive and you lose all the benefits for implements etc.

How does everyone else get around this. The previous owner did the same job pretty much and he had it insured on a tractor policy. Im trying to insure it through the same insurer and they still wont do it.

Can anyone recommend another insurer for this. I don't really want to move from NFU but can see it causing issues on the fleet policy. The mog will do a bit of ag work from time to time and I also move ag kit about for others which wouldnt be insured through the fleet policy.

Cheers

Jay

My three trucks are on a fleet policy with trust insurance and my two tractors and telehandler were with nfu. Nfu price seemed to keep going up so local farmer recommended Farmer and Mercantile. They were very helpful and were nearly £500 cheaper. That included use for forestry and domestic tree work on one of the tractors, other two mainly do yard work

I insure my Bedford mk with Trust, they put it in an all terrain vehicle category same as mogs, not sure about implement cover but I'm fully comp for £240 a year

That's cheap my digger costs 200 a year at only 3rd party and I bet I've done 5 miles in it this year on the read

I know it's been said many times but Trusts customer service is excellent

In my experiance they were a little pushy on the phone when i rang for a quote, didn't like it at all, and telling me because i was insured somewhere that i wouldnt be insured correctly as it would be insured as a drop side not a tipper... :001_huh:

yes it is insured as a tipper.

also the the trying to close a sale final pitch " we also insure you i you cut a tpo tree down" :001_huh:

I insured our Mog with NFU on a tractor policy. I had problems with one NFU branch so tried another and guess what no problem so suggest you do the same. They claim each office should be quoting the same price but not in my experience hence policies with different NFU offices - works for me.

I tried this as well however they weren't playing game and said if they can't do it we can't. Just seems ridiculous the mog couldn't be more ag if you tried.
