How are people finding their new Isuzu D-Max?

No sorry . Bit misleading of me . I have a D22 Navara .

 

Thanks for letting me know. The diesels made after 2010 are harder to modify. You will struggle to remove egr systems and smash through dpfs with out the engine ecu having a fit. Most of the stuff before 2007 will have cat rather than a dpf cheaper and easier to deal with.

Ok . Mine was definitely a DPF and not a CAT even though it is 2005 truck . Did not remove the EGR valve just blanked it off . No fault codes come up . Returns slightely more to the gallon if you try and drive gently but also spins up quicker if you want to tread on the load pedal .

Love my Dmax, nice to drive, good mileage and ok off road even with road tyres. only worry ive had so far is reversing a trailer up a steep hill created a right old stink from the clutch, though i fear this was likely operator error :thumbdown:

gutted i have only just seen this guy in cornwall though as i would have definitely bought the tipper version.

I had a new one back in December, its lovely to drive and tows weight well but there is a few niggles, same problem as Jimmay, bit of a smelling clutch reversing weight up hill, I don't think L4 is low geared enough, gearbox is a bit notchy, no limited slip diff on the back axle, and if you go up a steep slope the fuel gauge shows empty and the fuel light comes on, other than that its ok, plenty of leg room in the back seats and more room in the back, ive got the eiger model,

I've come across an Isuzu dealer in Cornwall (Roger Young) who are selling tipper conversion D-Max's uprated (road legally) to 3.5 ton gross vehicle weight.

 

I had been thinking of a Ford Ranger - which has the highest legal payload of the UK 4x4 pick ups straight from the factory - but uprated D-Max will have an extra approx. 300kg payload to play with.

 

So, am now thinking the Isuzu would be better for us.

 

However, I've noted people have mentioned a few D-Max problems on Arbtalk, so thought I'd try to collect an up-to-date view of how people are finding them in this thread before I make purchase decision (hopefully next week or two).

 

Many thanks in advance for your help. Arbtalk is very helpful for doing this sort of research.

There was a comprehensive discussion about DMax on here recently - lots of techy detail - I followed it because I was thinking of trading the 110 in for a DMax at the end last tax year. I didn't in the end.

 

I have seen the tipper they were developing at Roger Young, they are 15 miles from me, I bought the 110 from them.

 

It's a funny old game, how is it people only tell you how **** the service is at this or that place AFTER you've just spent your cash there???

The 4x4 on the new models is not supposed to need a limited slip diff. Explained in this Isuzu D-Max 4x4 Drive Train System Demo:

still wish my dmax had a 3rd diff for 4wd to prevent trans. wind. :(

The only thing I have heard relating to the new D max is the DPF regeneration cycles allowing engine oil to become diluted with diesel fuel . Just what I have heard .....

 

I have a mate who bought a new Dmax, he absolutley loved it until this problem with the paticulate filter happened allowing the engine to rev up to the limit until something gave.

now hes looking to get rid before its even 12 months old.
