This thread is confusing me! This job is simple. Take a tree, in any situation, be able to take it down with zero damage, no injuries, get paid. The rest is knowledge understanding and respect for trees. You wont get that overnight! As Rich said, Beraneks literature and dvds are gold when it comes to teaching. Other than that, go cut some trees and break some chit, LEARN!

Compared to when I first started out I'm not necessarily much faster, but I can happily climb for several hours in a day, where as it used to seem like really hard work. I think planning what you need to do in the tree so your not going up and down all the time is the key.

a good climber will make the job look near effortless. work with that person and ask questions.

practice practice and more practice as every tree is different and you will gain more the more you do.

the lad that works for me has been climbing for two years, and although there is a 14yr age gap, he aint as quick or as precise as the old man.

dont look at the branch your cutting, look three or more ahead.............
