Young Trees course

The Consulting Arborist Society runs a series of Areas of Professional Competency, in which Professional Members demonstrate their skills. The latest of these is 'Young Trees: Achieving Longevity in the Landscape', which is to be launched on 22nd and 23rd July at Barcham Trees (with a special launch discount of £100 per delegate compared to the normal price).

Some people suggest that this is little more than putting a tree in a hole. Others, with years of planting trees, may think that there is little more for them to learn. However, the process of taking a tree, growing it in the nursery, being able to assess nursery stock prior to planting to ensure quality, and selecting trees suitable for their setting, is complex. Keith Sacre, who chaired the BS8545 Drafting Committee, brings several decades of experience in nursery production, together with access to the latest research on species selection including for drought tolerance. He is also exploring work on the importance of the growing media in sustaining trees in the longer term.
