Yesterday I got a Hernia!

Went to see the Doc today, need surgery. NHS will be 2 months to see consultant then 2 months to wait for the Op. don't lift anything until your fixed!

Going private, consultant appointment Thur night, Op Saturday. Cost about £3k

Anybody had one? How long till you were fit for working again?

I think I had stitches out after 10 days and was allowed to drive after 2 weeks. Was allowed to do light duties after 6 weeks. I had to wait nearly 6 months for my op on NHS.

Worst thing was I was due to fly out to Oz 2 weeks after the op and I wasn't allowed to fly due to being a high risk of deep vein thrombosis!

Botched first op thanks to German medical service. NHS was a wait then a delay, but the op was great (well it worked)! I think I was off tree work for 6-8 weeks. Had friend who was running 2 weeks after his op! But I'd recommend not pushing it to get back to work.

Good luck

I friend of mine was quoted 2k for an inguinal hernia repair at a good private hospital, i think it was Spire in manchester, they may have other places in the uk. 3k seems expensive unless it's a double hernia, both sides of the inguinal canal.

I had one done by the NHS years ago, it was ok, in and out in a day. I took a week off work, it was two weeks until I could lift something heavy 50kg, it was ok to lift, but not recommended.

Had two of them now and both took a lil while to get in and get fixed. One done properly opened up and other keyhole surgery.

The keyhole recovered quicker and was less painful by a long way. both times was 3 months off work at surgeons recommendation and then fully a year to be fit again.

now the only trouble is if i wear a belt with decent sized buckle and do a bit of bending the buckle upsets the area but other than that its all great!!

does make a little more wary of silly lifts but thats not a bad thing.

I had an ingunial hernia last year. Nhs was a 6 month wait so I had to get it done privately. My mate had one at the same time and didn't take care of himself, his ruptured at work and he was in a real mess.

I had key hole surgery and was in Africa ten days later, climbing steadily after 14 days. The only problem I have with it now is when I go kite surfing, I get a bad burning pain after about an hour and a half.
