Hi everyone.I have entered the 3ATC climbing competition for this Friday.i thought it would be a good experience but started to get little bit nervous reading the rules.I don't normally use any fancy setup sp i try and keep it simple as i can with just prusik but hitch climber setup occasionally.i would like to have a go at SRT but i dont realy have time to practice.so What sort of setup you guys use for comps:confused1:would i be ok to use just prusik because there was something in rules about not been allowed to use prusik:001_huh: for descending or have i read it wrong .Any advice and experience that :thumbup1:shared much appreciated :thumbup:THanks

There are lots of climbers who do the 3ATC comps on Prussiks, don't worry about it and have fun! That cedar is a great tree to climb and Paul, Tony and Nick will do all they can to put you at ease. As far as setup goes use what you're comfortable with, I've always gone hitch climber as it's my day to day setup. I wish I'd been able to get there but I'm in Spain this week on holiday!

Prussik hitch is fine & there will be plenty of other competitors using a prussik. There is a slightly confusing rule about hitches which basically says you can not descend with a hitch on a static line. If hitch is used as part of a doubled rope system then no problem.

Enjoy your climb & ask lots of questions. There will be a lot of experienced climbers at the comp & trade stands that will be happy to provide advice on alternative climbing knots & set ups.

Spend a bit of time just watching a few, plan where your going and don't miss a target point as I did the 1st time I had a go and end up going back up to it.

Just use the gear your comfortable with and most importantly enjoy it, it's ment to be fun after all :D

Just have fun mate, don't over think it too much. Don't get sucked into it so much that you lose track of what's going on around you, use it as a learning experience and if you time out or get DQ'd for something just have a laugh about it.

Also never try new gear/set ups for a comp, stick to what you are used to and then play around with different options afterwards!

Have fun and learn :001_cool:

P.s Hope you are doing well David, long time no speak!
