Within 12 months, there will be a woodchip micro chp unit available which can produce heat and elctrical power for home use. I think I am correct in saying that it will produce up to 3.5kw electric as well as thermal energy for heating. You would be able to claim Rhi and Fit but have not been given any more info at present.

I can't say any more at the moment as I have had to sign a non disclosure contract. I have been allowed to say that but have to wait for permission to release any more information. It's great to hear those sort of comments though. I hope to see one in operation within 3 months as a demo unit and then it will have to go through accreditation etc. Watch this space :-)

Put my pellet boiler in in 2007 so no RHI bt I did get a small grant of about 10% of the cost. Fuel use far exceeds that predicted by the manufacturer, it also only runs for 9 hours on a full load. SO fill at 6am, by 3pm its empty and needs filling again. Should have gone for a stand alone boiler house with integral bulk fuel store. However I am advised that bulk blown pellets are more expensive that the 20kg bags I currently use.

Hi Alycidon, sorry for the silly question that's about to come...I have googled bulk blown pellets but can't find anything, could you (or someone else) enlighten me about the difference between them and bagged pellets? As far as I can see, the only difference is in how they are delivered.

I find it strange why bulk blown is more expensive per kilo :confused1:

also, can't you get a fuel store added to your current unit? Have you contacted the manufacturer?

I am very concerned that the people selling these systems are only interested in 'dazzling' people with the investment figures etc,the ones I have spoken to have no idea if local wood fuel suitable for the boilers is sold locally, or if indeed any suppliers are able to meet the needs of these wood guzzling boilers, at least 25 tonnes of dry seasoned logs per year for each boiler sold, or huge quantities of woodchip. I have heard of owners burning briqettes as they were unable to get dry logs, a very expensive option! It is not like installing an oil or gas system where the supply is of fuel is easy.

brilliant point StephF ! This was my biggest problem when I entered the renewable world. so easy to find a stove. so easy to find an installer. not so easy, relative to gas and oil, to find suitable logs/biomass.
