Is there any issue with using a grigri on a snake anchor as a base tie off?

Wondered why people used rigs,id's and others.

Advantages/disadvantages would be great.

It's a big no no from petzl to use a grigri as a base anchor. It's designed to always be attached to a belayer.

Does any one use a GriGri as a base anchor with no problems?

RIG and D4 are good for base anchors as far as i know.

Must be attached to a belayer as thats what petzl say in the instructions.

I know heaps of people that have or still do use a grigri as a base anchor with no issues.

No problems with the questions, just thought id answer in the pc and truthful way

Seems like fair use at the moment, can't see a big problem with it but will monitor. Can't justify spending that much on a rig or similar at the mo, guess that's why they come with there price tag.

When I volunteered as a tech at the ITCC several years ago we used Grigris anchored to the tree to belay the footlock contestants.
