Daft and irritating terminology used in this industry

Another one you foreigners get wrong us the word "acorn"

In Dutch there is a word pronounced just the same, "eekhoorn" in German there is a very similar sounding "eichhorn".

The above two being both very close to the root of the word meaning "oak-horn" and referring to the wee tree dweller with spiky "horns" , the squirrel.

At what point in history did that go wrong?

"Smash it out!"...was a Phrase I would hear many times a day down south.I associate the word smash with glass and so at first hoped that the day's treework would not involve Greenhouses or windows.Still dislike the phrase as it doesn't suggest any sort of skill or finesse.

"scoping"

I got shocked looks when I volunteered to bring my rifle in.

if the Senior Managment Team were serious about their "scoping" intentions

I tink I misunderstood.

Plus

I keep saying "discrimination" is a good thing.

A person of great discrimination used to be a compliment.

Why do certain persons insist in driving Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes (& perhaps Lexi)

not Fords, Kia's or Skoda's. (for example)

Why not eat in a shite restraunt instead of picking a good one.

But!

That really means, everything I just said is irellevant or lies - now I'll say what I mean.

I can understand what you are saying but - I can't really.

I used to work in an ofice environment where people used phrases like

I'll diary you in

We'll touch base

Imagineering

I'm glad to be working with people who are genuine and not trying to impress with crap phrases all the time

Hi,

I couldnt agree more, such utter rubbish is completely vomit inducing, just another way of sloping responsibility onto others, relinquishing accountability.

Pick it and run with it? No thanks, Id rather not.

Going forward? unless you can stop time this is an inevitability.

As for 'we'lll touch base' it makes me clench my buttock checks very tightly!

Yuk.

Near perfect...

and

Almost exactly...

So you mean NOT perfect and NOT exactly???

Virtual as in "virtual reality"... which is nothing like reality...

Literally when they mean virtually...

Other than these few, my main annoyances are "Americanisms"

But above all, when someone calls a Landrover a Jeep... in fact, anything with big wheels they think of as a Jeep... WHY??? That's like calling a tree a Daffodil.

Jeep: from GP. General purpose vehicle. Used to denote several different 4x4 during the war.
