i found the little metal splitter to be a waste of time as it needs more effort ( sledge and splitter), and i am wary of fibreglass handles as i've had one shatter on me. i use a 3kg maul with a hickory handle, i think i got it from Wickes about 6yrs ago, cost then about £17..

I have/had the roughneck maul and used it for driving the grenade. The grenade is good but the head broke off. I n my opinion the shaft is too narrow where it goes through the head.

If you get it, go girly with it, not highland games style! I do have a photo of it broken somewhere.

Looking at a lower priced spillting mail/axe to start off with some splitting - before looking at a higher quality tool in a few years time.

Come accross a set from Screwfix (Roughneck Log Splitter Set 3 Pieces | Log Splitters | Screwfix.com) - has anyone used this set before, if so any good or are there better products in a similar price range?

HI BEAN we had a new one here and the head come away from handle mate :lol:thanks jon
