Burning Laurel in my wood burner

not laurel, it's griselinia littoralis. but any timber burns when it's seasoned well. all the gases go up the flue, so stay off the roof!

 

 

 

:thumbup1::thumbup1:Yep Griselina not Laurel and yep if the fumes aren't going up the chimney you've probably got a problem whatever your burning.

I sold over 400 ton of laurel as firewood 2 winters ago; was nervous due to all the cyanide horror stories; they are just that. Yes there is some but 90% evaporated during seasoning. Dry laurel is excellent firewood so I found out.

 

Seconded. 2012 felt like I spent half my time working laurel - lots of good firewood from it.

 

rayzor, if you can stack your green wood outside in a breezy spot but under a lid it'll dry much faster than in a garage, honest. It's not the heat that dries it, it's the airflow: the last few weeks have done months' worth of seasoning to my woodpile, stacked as billets under a tarp.
