Oy Oy! That's just downright taking the proverbial. Books aka copy for accountant, me and Revenue:001_tt2: sorry to disappoint or create a false image but no all legit I'm afraid coz I've seen Revenue in action and definitely not pleasant.

Me! Take the proverbial........Never!

I had serviced a guys ride-on mower for 9 years, always properly invoiced and properly paid.

Then he asks " we have known each other for a long time, how about doing it for cash this year?"

I said "sorry, not worth the risk"

He says " Shame, but i understand. No-one would ever have known though, I am very discreet"

I say "Yes, its a shame, but the answer is still no"

He says " I only thought to ask, as I have just paid my builder £8000 in cash for the extension"

So much for discretion, there was a blooming great sign on the scaffolding with the local builders name on it!!

Then to cap it all he says " I told my mates at the golf club I would ask you, they will all be gutted"

The moral? Do not trust anyone.

Id give a bit off on a good size job say £50 0ff £750 for the convenience of not having to wait for the cheque to clear, which is almost always the best part of a week! Do the job, knock on the door, walk round the site and leave with the money, all done until the next time they want something doing:thumbup1:

I wouldnt knock off a percentage though, as that would seem very suspect!

Don't see what the problem is with accepting cash, and even offering a small discount.

One of our largest corporate customers insists on a 5% discount for immediate payment.

We're happy to give this in the full knowledge that our cash flow is safe, and we've already priced it in.

Their last invoice was for £14,000 so 5% was £700, they're happy, my banks happy, who loses?

Personally I would rather wait the month and get the extra £700!
