"No more"...latest HSE indg 317 & AFAG (FISA) 301 put it down to site / task risk assmt. Hence, generally, work gloves are fine.

cheers

PAUL

Thanks mate, thought the rules had changed.

To my mind, wearing chainsaw gloves in certain situations added to the risk.

If you ever cut the back of your left hand your problem probably isn't your gloves!

I hate wearing any sort of gloves for chainsaw use, I feel I have more grip in wet conditions, I know and can feel when there is muck and grime on my hands, I have more feel for what the saw is doing.

all this is taken away with wearing gloves, when wet they become slippy you have less feel and make your hands cold.

defo no gloves for me unless I'm moving brash or handling something rough.

general ground use, a good pair of thick leather gloves.

Personally I find I can't work very well with gloves. Infact the first time I used a saw at college (where they require you to always wear gloves when using or practically just touching a saw) I accidentally had it revving at one point because the corner of one finger of my glove was on the trigger. I couldn't feel that at all. I just can't feel what I'm doing with gloves on.

So personally I'd say no gloves unless you're working with thorny stuff etc.

However, does anyone have any suggestions for what gloves to get if you prefer working with gloves? I've got next to no experience there so I can't really advise...

I've been doing this for around 8 years I've had chains come off and I realy can't see how chainsaw protective gloves can help other than make things bulky for the user.

My New Years resolution is to use gloves everyday I'm sick of my hands being wreaked and the nail brush which I use to scrub my hands with is looking sorry for itself. So far I'm doing well the red pfanners which are cheap (£3.00) are helping me look like a normal human being

IN colder weather I like to uwear gloves anyway because I find if I am doing lots and lots of cross-cutting a pair of thin wool gloves under a pair of leather work gloves keeps your hands toasty warm and sees off the threat of white finger. It's either that or heated handles. The inner gloves stop the outer ones getting all slimy and stinky.
