Why the hell haven't they gone and bought some ....its an emergency stop fannying about .....mastic your doors shut, yes that means go and buy some mastic .....and yes that means NOW .....

I was saying to my son last night, if it were us we would move every thing upstairs, mastic the door jams, punch a hole in the floor slab, get the pump from the shed and cope. Try and avoid a claim from the insurance company, or you may well loose a large chunk of the value of your house.

If you live near a river be prepared.

I have seen in some Cornish towns, special anti flood barriers that drop into groove fixed to the door frame, simple but effective.

I have spoken to people who have been flooded and they say "the water comes in from everywhere, very hard to stop. But you see people on the TV who have made no attempt to move anything, knowing the insurance company will pick up the bill.

When it comes to renewing the insurance they will get a shock, also if they get the house valued they will get a shock.

Take some responsibility fill your own sandbags,

H-A

Don't you realise it's a nanny state! Someone has to take the blame for all this. If the local council can't control the weather then central government should do something:001_smile: Where there's blame there's a claim...never mind the highest rainfall for 250 years. If the river reaches my house someone's going to have to answer to it:001_smile:

I looked at those, very expensive for what they are.

I made some last yr when the sphincter factor went into the red. 1/2" ply with 2x2 reinforced edges to box out around the sills, bolted to the walls each side of the doors, used plenty of silicon. Did our whole place for £300.

As it happened we didn't need them, but it seemed prudent when levels were 6" from disaster. I could refit them all in 15 mins if I had to.

I have to shake my head when someone says a changing climate is caused by "climate change" in other news, tail wags dog! They shoulda stuck to "global warming" so we could point and laugh when it stopped 15 odd yrs ago.

Totally agree with this I live on the Usk that goes into the severn estuary we was on flood alert a few weeks back I contacted the council for sandbags but they never delivered so I got off my backside went to robert price and got somebefore the high tide came in again ,my house is less than 5 metres from the waters edge and its tidal where I am.I didnt see one other person in the whole street making any preperations just incase even though there was a real risk of us flooding .

I may not of used them that time but with the way the weather seems to be going lately it wouldnt suprise me if we are at risk of flooding again soon
