Polish that exhaust port a bit and don't forget to bevel the edges well. If it were mine, I would advance the timing 25% of the key.

 

Thanks wyk have pollished ghr port since pic . On the timeing advance would you open the keyway and pack out to move it ?

Thanks spud built it up a bit this afternoon didnt want to touch th intake as it was close to the have red you mentioning 2mm as a maximum before stuck in my head. i ave used a liquid gasket

 

Widend the exhaust 1mm or so raised a bit and a little skim on the lower face. And my interprotation of a mufler mod only got a pick of it part done you guys think it would be ok dint wana go to mad

The muffler mod is basically a big hole in the flat plate that sticks out of the clutch cover. I fo a fair bit more than that bit no need to open the two muffler halves up.

 

Make sure you bevel those port edges as the rings will need it!

Never open the keyway. First - buy a woodruff key from your nearest stihl dealer if this is the first time you've done this. Then, remove the flywheel, then the woodruff key on the saw. Mark it carefully at 1/4 the width. Grind that off. Replace it in the keyway, rotate the Flywheel snug against it, CCW. Then go cut and see how she does. On a 200T and a 201T, your largest returns will be in exhaust mods and ignition timing. Be sure to tune her right. With a 200t, you should own a tachometer as they scream.

I have. Given the port edges a good bevle and a nice smooth over insted of drilling a hole through the side plate i have removed a trianlge pice from the origonal exit ....stelth mod

 

wyk thiss woodruff key would it esentaily be a steped key fitting the original keways just ofset a quater of the with of the key i have a tach cheep carppy one mind need a battery

Well, here it is at long last. Some of the guys on my other "Whats on your Bench" thread aren't in to porting so thought I should split out this type of chainsaw modification for those with similar interests.

 

Personally, I got fed up with just repairs and did a blokes "I wonder what would happen if....":001_rolleyes::lol:

 

I purchased three 346XPs, two were for resale and the third......got ported and I never looked back - the results of the porting sounded and felt great so the porting bug stuck.

 

Currently I am working on an old 066 that will be a real beast once done but that will appear soon.

 

Today it has been MS441 tuning, the ring end runs down the side of the exhaust port messing up any chance of widening it unless you want a lop sided port and uneven blowdown:thumbdown:

 

The saw is a strato so left the porting and recommended just a simple muffler mod - I had two diameter pipes I could have used, a simple hole would have a similar effect but like to make the finished job look good so chose the smaller of the two.

 

Good thing I did as it is suitably loud. I also openend up the existing hole. Pickup is faster now and am happy with the look:thumbup:

No problem, glad you approve, I don't think you ever get tired of using a ported 346, they are lush as the yout of today would say:thumbup:
