Without testing, I would say leaving a saw to idle would allow it to cool down from full tilt running temperatures. I don't believe there are any advantages in doing this unless you are running a saw in where flat out running in short bursts is good but you don't want to generate too much heat.

Don't forget to tell them that it will make your ears bleed from the noise.

 

Have just had Spud rework and port my 262XP; used it for a while yesterday and it's astonishingly good. If it's louder, I really can't tell. But it's an absolute beast, that's for sure. Highly recommended.

Got a MS362 in for a muffler mod, have done a couple of these and they have been loud with quite a high pitched note so tried this type of mod and was happy with the finished job and noise.

Had my old 260 on the bench the other week to fix a cracked chain brake pin. Decided to take the barrel off as I needed to access the casing behind the exhaust. Gas flowed the exhaust port and lifted it by about 1mm, opened out the exhaust manifold and gasket to suit. Would have liked to braze a new pipe port on the muffler but that will have to wait till next so drilled a few holes instead. WOW what a difference its made. The old saw's like a new beast. Takes me back to when I used to tune up me old two stoke bike. Thinking of fitting a proper expansion chamber round the side of my old 044.

Been porting again, this was a real pleasure as the saws were in stonking condition. A near new MS200 with very little use (2010) and a very nice 395XP which sounded rather good once done. Compression on the MS200 was circa 180 before my adjustments so that should go well and the 395 turned out nice.
