Am I totally under estimating jobs here? £400 for a 45 minute job?? Is that not a bit steep...I would charge £250 for that call out, but my guidelines would be that price is to come to site, make the tree safe and waste would be left on site...you then give a price if they want the job cleaned up and if you have to go back the following day...then you charge what ever you normally do eg day rate, half say, hourly rate....

Am I totally off the mark?

The way this thread is going please be gentle with me 😉 👍

I think it's the clear up as well that people are pricing for. :001_smile:

Felix I'm just guessing he didn't clear up because of him saying he's back there today? But if it's taken him 45min to clean up aswell I would still only say £250

I think he said 45 minutes last night to make safe/clear the drive and 3 hours today (Saturday) cleaning up. If he is getting rid of the rubbish, £350 to £400 sounds reasonable assuming he has help again with the clean up. :001_smile:

Hey guys, I know theres a few posts on this but i really didnt find what i was looking for.

If you have time im after some advice on what i should charge for this emergency callout.

Scenario. 18.45 last night, in the pub, finished work at 4 so id had a few! Call from a large manor house in the village who had a tree down across their driveway. It was about 16 inches dbh and there was no way in or out plus the house keeper could get home. The usual tree surgeon they use is still away on leave so normally wouldnt get the job and doubt ill get repeat work unfortunately as theyve used him for years. I recruited a lad in the pub to give me a hand and was there within 15 minutes of recieving the phone call after finishing my pint and having a rolly.

We cleared the tree and all in all took about about 45 minutes before i was back in the pub getting warm and dry again (yes it was absolutely pissing it down last night) Were back again thismorning to finish clearing the tree.

So basically, im asking what you lot would charge for a 45 minute callout on a friday night in the pissing rain - plus an unexpected 3 hr job on a saturday (with a hangover ;-) ). I really need to come up with a minimum callout charge for this type of thing as its happened a few times over christmas.

Sorry for the rambling, must still be a bit tanked.. Many thanks and have a goodn!

HI MATE can i just say one thing it up to if you take it on or not BUT would not of been better to put this in the member only forum as the chap from large house may see this BUT thats up to you what you do mate thanks jon

Just out of curiosity do you have a standard minimum fee for normal hours tree work. This would be my starting point. Then perhaps an out of hours premium, but I think you have to be realistic. So you normal rate for the clear up and perhaps your minimum charge plus an out of hours rate. Maybe plus 50%, because if you need staff to get involved it will have to be worth there while. Or you have an arrangement with another company do cover out of hours work.
