Tbh I think you'll get a dog of a pick up for the money you want to pay, it might end up costing you more in the long run how about a trailer and use the current vehicle to tow it some thing like this Countryman : Whitemoss Gardening, for gardeners and landscape professionals alike

Much more versatile it'll get you going and you'll have £500 spare to get you started so you can make more money to buy something better

I know its tempting to buy cheap- and sometimes it does see you through a tight spot, but more often than not, its a waste of money.

I had a an old style tata yeah they have there problems but there simple to fix & theres a lot out there getting broken in scrap yards so parts are quite easy to source on the second hand market

 

I then got a brand new (new style was a 51 plate) tipper tata again some problems but easy enough to fix

 

theres people out there that will shoot them down in flames & slag them off cos they had a bad experience or they just don't like the look of them

 

my tata ownership spanned 7 years yeah there was the odd breakdown but I have not owned a vehicle that has not had some form of mechanical / electrical issue & iv had most trucks vans etc. over the years

tatas are what they are if you want a dream machine to drive & never breaks down look else ware

but if you want a rough n ready work horse that's not the most comfortable drive but starts runs drives tatas are for you! just remember to keep an eye on oil water etc..

 

theres people out there who slag landrovers off then theres people who love them & my landy has given me more grief & expense in 18 months than both tatas did in 7 years! each to there own I guess!!

If you got van option something to look at it the citreon berlingo 5 seat thing peugeot partners as well, the way i look at it is you buy 1 it looks like a van but had back windows ad 3 seats in the back take the seats out and you have a van insured as a 5 door 5 seater car rather than van insurance which can be pricy and a pain to find the right cover, just an option if you got van route there are others as well then the 2 i mentioned.

I'd get a small van for your budget then when you've saved up and are well in then look at a pick up trust me I started off with a 03 Peugeot partner I gave 900 quid for then a 54 reg connect (best van ever) for 2k now I've just brought a 55 plate ranger for 5k a bit of price difference youl get a pickup it'll just take time to find a decent one

I think small van is going to be the option of choice untill I can fund getting something bigger, after a landrover pick up really and need to save a bit before that will be sat on my drive...cheers for all the input tho guys 👍

I agree with the van option, but if funds are tight ( arnt they always ), why not get an estate car, something like an astra estate, would be better on the insurance front. If you were that inclined you could look for an old forester or something.
