£40 for a runner with no chain brake.

Are these saws horrid ?

No, but they are a bit odd (they sort of have a top handle rather than a back handle) and heavy. They are, however, extremely rugged and reliable which is why hire shops used to have a lot of them. Parts availability is also surprisingly good as they share a lot of parts with models with a very long build history.

08 chainsaws were sold with the additional option of buying the extra bits to turn them into the disc cutter. All the 08's ive seen and owned didn't have the round airfilter on the back they just had a black plastic cap that screwed in to hold the filter in place. So if you see an 08 with the round airfilter housing its most likely started out as a disc cutter and been turned into a chainsaw.

Yes. They have loads of grunt. Been working on one with a chain brake. A real pig to get the bar and chain off as you have to remove the entire front wrap around handle and chain cover in one go.

Old tollinson carb, so easy to work with. And parts are there if you look for them.

I cut my chainsaw teeth on an 08s, way back in the late seventies.

Her was only replaced as a "frontline" farm saw with one of the last of the 026's.

An her still be going.

Some electronic gubbins that was pressed onto the end of the crankshaft, and an odd plug, was the only repair and maint I ever recall.

Yes - they are a very old design (1960s), and waaay to heavy for the power. Then there is the ergonomics.....

The wonder is that they still make them (in Brazil).

And yet so many people like these old stihl saws, niko, but then again the 070/090 is no lightweight.

It's a 56cc topper, so it'll pull a 21" bar (stihl only do 15, 17, 21 and up).

Most are on points, but they bought out electronic ignition and a chainbrake on the later models
