drop side bodys are not strong enough to be converted to tippers so you need to get the hole body from a tipper. if you buy the hole lot from a breakers the body, pump, sub fram are very easy to swap over done my last one in an afternoon and cost me £1200 for all the bits

Beg to differ. Been there done that.

converted 3 first one I tried retaining the body but was more hastle than it was worth.

No I meant haw many flats have you made into tippers, answer none, went with the spend more money option.

From the last few posts I don't think the OP has much to spend so putting the effort into the job is probably going to be the option of choice. Your £1200 quid option is most of his vehicle buget

You can pick up a pump/tank unit for a couple of hundred and a hundred quids worth of steel will put a spline in a flat.

Hmmmm it seems there is a difference of opinion here!! Can you retain the body or not that it the question and I guess the answer will be determined by the vehicle and its original back end!

Interesting thoughts though so keep them coming.

As some of you may be aware from the last thread I started I am looking for a new crewcab tipper for £2000 ish or less. well I have found a truck that it well inside the budget but is a dropside so do I buy and convert or just hold out for a tipper to come along?
