Nick, thanks for the quick reply. If it was hardwood how much would the price go up by?

Quite a bit.

But why would you want hardwood.

We heat 4 houses with a solid wood boiler run on softwood.

Now when it gets cold like few weeks ago around 0 degrees I did few experiments.

Fill to brim at 8 pm with mixed softwood..

At 7am burnt out pretty much..fill again for rest day.. Houses all have plenty hot water and water temp stays where it should.

Next nite.

Fill to brim with very dry mixed hardwood, mainly beech and 5 yr old oak that's been under cover.

Next morning 7am. Pretty much burnt out..

So no diff at all.

The water temp may have been slightly higher in boiler but makes no odds as long as its above the min required to produce enough heat for the houses that's all that matters..

Which it is with soft wood.

Not sure what out come will be when it hits minus 12 like it has here at times last couple yrs.

But that's only for few weeks yr so bit nice dry hardwood in reserve won't hurt..

And to be honest I'd say there would be well over 10% hardwood mixed in with the softwood that I would provide you..

We pull that out and put it to one side for when it gets cold with our burner
