Bulk Firewood Costs To Location Near Launceston

Hi,

we are about to buy a property and are looking at installing a log boiler. I am evaluating the timber input costs to see if it stacks up.

I will need around 40 tonnes (seasoned) per year to run it. (80m3 green unseasoned??).

I have a large barn for storage (it will take loads more than this figure) so I can take timber all year to coincide with your own barns filling up perhaps in the summer months?

The location is just off the a30 and is an easy tip. What sort of prices would I be looking at for processed materials or unprocessed arb arisings? I can also take chip if a dump is needed to sweeten the deal.

Many thanks

That is a lot of wood if it is 40 tonne a year dried, what size is your house and boiler? Your tonne dry to m3 wet is way way off if I am reading it right. You might find dumped loads in a barn have disappointing dry results.

Hi its for a 80kw burner supplying a small district heating system. TO conversion was provided by the boiler company. The wood needs to be below 20% misture when burnt. I guess that explains the high conversion figure to a degree.

At GBP 30 per cube delivered I would take his hand off! Nick how on earth can you deliver at that price?

Softwood..

All wood that I can get for nothing.

Have so much of it we collected for our own boiler that we are now burning it in yard to get rid.

Can cut and split a artic bulker load in a good day with 2-3 men..

The bulker we have are around 55-65 cube. Would heap it right up and not worry about pulling easy sheet over...

We run in that direction with grain or animal feed at around £400 load and load. back for around £300.

So to me its bloody good earner..

Getting on for 2 grand for day out in lorry..

Less running costs diesel obviously.

Would clear £1300 profit easy..

Now question is can the op get hold of and split that softwood for £1800.

I doubt it..

And 80% mine would be well seasoned and under cover
