Probably explored countless times in the past however what are the opinions on the credibility of Lantra versus the basic NPTC's i.e. 30/31, 38/39 etc.

The reason I ask is that the equivalent Lantra course are a whole lot cheaper at the training providers near me however I have been told to get NPTC's as they are considered more credible than Lantra.

Is it worth doing Lantra over NPTC given the opportunity or vice versa?

Hi, welcome to the forum and all that....

Lantra and NPTC Quals are now identical - both regulated by Ofqual - and completely interchangeable - you can do saw maint with LANTRA, followed by NPTC cross cut, followed by LANTRA basic felling.

If Lantra and NPTC agree they are equal - who is anyone else to argue.

The only issue is that you may find that that those who have not moved with the times still think that NPTC (that should read City and Guilds) are better. I guess they will catch up in time.

If Lantra is cheaper - go for it IMHO

Dont know if i has changed that much since i did my cs30/31 two years ago i was told the training was exactly the same but lantra give you a certificate of training and nptc is a certificate of competance and the additional cost was for the assesment?

Might of changed since then though

From what i can work out they aee both the same but the assessment is nptc at the end I have done my 30 31 and the work book is lantra but the assment criteria is set by nptc with lantra they recommend u take refresh 3 to 5 years also most people employers want nptc as lantra is ita course in other words integrated assment rather than separate I personally would go with nptc over lantra as employers favour it more

I would always employ an nptc qualified person over lantra every time, nptc is independently assessed where lantra hand the certificate of training at the end of the training (no proof your any good just that you attended). Unless I'm corrected ?.

Every employer asks for nptc, Lantra is better than nothing but you want nptc it's more recognised as industry competence.

Nope things have changed a bit. Lantra and NPTC are now identical in terms of course material, both train and independently assess to the same level. Both the Forestry commision and Tilhill now give equall weighting to Lantra & NPTC.

As a trainer i have gone with Lantra.

Nah Philip, NPTC is no longer just assessments and Lantra are no longer just training or ITA. The new LANTRA / NPTC qualifications (assessments) are now identical. Lantra assessments are considered as suitable pre-requesents for NPTC and vice versa.
