thinking about it i had similer probs with my hilux last year and found the strainer in the tan blocked,would run great for a while then die back,have you a primer on the fuel filter ? is the button sucked down on full revs ?also the primer diaphrams perish and let in air had in on my citroen bx td

ya wouldnt hurt to check the tank.

 

i would say change the fuel filter as a matter of course, it could be full of water (not unheard of).

 

but before you do that queeze the primer bulb after it has cut out, if you can hear air inside it will have a leak.

 

old school diesels suck from the tank, so if there is a leak it just sucks in air and then cuts out.

 

air leaks in turbo/vacume hoses is also a good suggestion.

have a look at thoses, change fuel filter then try it..

it wont be a compression problem.

Ok so update time I guess. :blushing:

 

So looked at all the air pipes, also cleaned the vacuum hoses.

 

Still the same.

 

Checked the filter primer, didn't go too stiff when pumped.

 

So swapped it out before heading off with the other vans, filter and housing.

 

Ran like a dream :blushing:

 

So new filter on order and new one in other van.

 

There is a small brass filter on the out flow bolt on the filter housing, this was also gunked up, so cleaned that out aswell.

 

Thanks for all the hints people. And I'm sure the owner will be along as apparently he fixed it this morning, so I'm leaving the chipper in his hands to fix, :001_tt2::001_tt2:

 

But it still hadn't got the power it had when he got it, the other van has way more power in it.

 

Might look at a turbo service kit at some point.
