i moved to melbourne a year ago and i was told to go there with 2500 pound in the bank .. they did not check but it was not worth risking it , it does tell you on the emailed visa you get when granted that you need this amount , they did check where i was headed upon arrival so it is a good idea to atleast book urself in a hostel for 1 nite for when you arrive before u leave home and show them at the airport with a printed out receipt ,

Easy way around it anyway. If you're good with your folks get them to transfer funds into your account a couple of weeks prior then transfer it back when you're sorted and in the country.
