Much nicer shape / form on the second one :thumbup1:..... but why are you using off cuts and not nice select pieces from trees ? ( I am assuming you are in the tree work industry )....

 

 

Thanks twig. I wasn't very keen on the first one myself I can't think of any real use for it it's less than 5" diameter.

I'm not in the industry I only ended up in this forum as it came up in Google every time I needed chainsaw advice lol. And I hung around to keep an eye on the firewood forum for any local stuff getting shifted free or cheap. I normally turn stuff I've picked up as firewood but got offered this worktop stuff and thought I'd try it. I've still got approx 4' length of it

I did a similar thing Mick with some oak work tops that were going to be skipped, found it hard to get a good finish though.

 

 

 

I seen this platter when you turned it lazurus. It's actually something I've looked at for inspiration.

Are they very , very posh file handles ??   the last one is a lovely crotch ....I like a nice crotch  ...especially a smooth one !!!!    Nice work , keep it up ... I will be in the shed a lot more soon ( summer is for outdoor stuff )   so will post a few finished pieces soon-ish

lol they are top grade wine bottle stoppers!
