hi trouble is if you lay downhill the sap does not run as such hence you get die back at ends. if i have to do it if its long i lay uphill then back pleach to go other way makes the sap run. or will lay it but put on a y stick so its off ground just going up. with south can lay on top but still do not lay downhill.

thats the way i was shown by cutters of age and wisdom so must know what there about. wait for Dorset to comment as he is a good cutter. no dorset not the above well the second:biggrin:

What I was getting at from the very 1st post , is that after seeing the gent giving it a bit of consideration, he thought it was being done purely because we were all right handed never mind up hill down hill.

Maybe its just some hedges are wider down this way, but what happens if you have to cut from the other side as well then your the "wrong " side for your hand ... are you not ??????. thats what I was getting at

--------------------------

Up hill, down hill, on the level, so long as the "head" is higher than where the tree/plant/shrub etc comes out of the ground, its ment to draw and should be ok. seen plenty where head has died of being lower than base

HS sorry mate cant make 23rd .
