stihl 661 v husky 390

That's kW, the other figures were bhp, but personally I find the power figures useless, modern stihl power ratings are at 10k rpm, husky pro saws at 9.6k rpm and husky home owner saws at 9k rpm, so is a slower engine giving more power? My 560 has never been that low when cutting at full GBL, I would be very interested in how they come up with the power ratings, on a car you have a curve, but a saw, you just have one number at mid-high revs?

 

It doesn't make any difference whether you compare kW or you compare bhp, as long as you are comparing like with like. And however you look at it, the MS 660 has more power, and lower weight than both 390 XP and 395 XP.

 

And while the manufacturers' power ratings may not be entirely accurate, it's all we have to go by. And I have no reason to believe that one manufacturer is less "honest" than another (at least when it comes to STIHL vs Husqvarna).

Well that's settled it.

Overnight my local stealer has put up the price of a 28" 661 from £800 up to £890!!! That's a fair jump so makes you wander if Stihl have given them a ticking off for not price matching!

Even the 395xp is £40 cheaper than the 661 now.

 

Btw husqy claim the 390xp weight as 7.1kg whereas the 661 stihl claim 7.4kg both on there official sites so everyone saying the stihl is lighter its not.... Stihl claim it to be the "lightest 90cc 5.4kw" saw not "the lightest 90cc" saw lol.

7.1KG is 15.65 lbs. My 385xp was nowhere near that.

I did a run recently on both saws ported with the same bar and chain .. Ergonomically the 390 felt a better saw but it was not as fast in the cut as the 395... For the extra weight and price I would still opt for the 395 unless I had to use the 390 every day.
