Hauling chip vs round logs

A cubic meter of timber weighs between 1 and 2 tons depending what it is, that will make about twice that volume when chipped. The only wood that will reduce in volume is the lop and top. To shift 6 ton of chip you will need at least a 15 cubic meter trailer

Are you saying that if you chip a cubic meter of wood it becomes 2 cubic meters ???

Its generally accepted that there is 2/2.5 cubic meters of chip per ton depending on what it is http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/7002-weight-woodchip.html

You can reduce the bulk of lop and top but you are fluffing up cord when its chipped. Our trailer is 60 cubic meters and it feels like its empty when full of chip compared to when its stacked out with rings and chogs.
