Softwood harvesting rates

Hi, just wanting to pick a few brains. Been offered a good flat site with 150m haul distance for a 50% thin of a hectare of western hemlock. Extraction using a valtra and Botex and hand cut. It's in the southeast. Any ideas for cutting on tonnage rates. We do a lot of hardwood on difficult sites but don't want to put the customer off with a silly rate. Many Thanks

I have no idea about cutting and extraction rates, but if your getting 3.7's and 4.9's with pallet and pulp I'd say around £40 a tonne. But I'm only a cutter.... and just guessing too....

what sort of age is the timber and has it been thinned before sounds like a nice job if they havent seen too much light and not got too many branches :thumbup:

We recently done some scots pine and that went for shavings to Euroforest. We got payed 11 a ton to cut. I know chip has been going for 18 at roadside and I pretty sure bars are around the 18.50 mark shavings were around 22 I think but really depends on what market they go to.

If you need any extra saws let me know I'm in ringmer near lewes and always looking for hand work and around sussex.

Thanks for the replies. It's around where I thought. It's only a small block so I've added the low loader fees on top for the forwarder which the client seems happy about!

We seem to be doing best on cutting hardwood cord where the demand is obviously high. Just having a problem finding enough material to cut!

Yep, although I'm paying myself the same now as I was on 13 years ago.

Why bother cutting bars when the shavers are worth more for a lesser quality?

We didn't cut bars as I said we cut it for shavings! Was just giving the prices I was told for roadside!
