Wages information - how much should I be on

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I started fresh out of school 2006 and took home £113 a week. .6 years later I bring that in a day, it's a waiting game.

Money isn't great being employed but to be honest job satisfaction is a major part of it.

Who else goes home at the end of the day absolutely chin strapped stinking like a sewer rat covered head to toe in saw dust, blood, sweat and weird little crawly things and can think to themselves f**k yeah I'm the man, get up and do it again.

Skills and knowledge take a long time to build, college won't necessarily help as every tree is different you can't learn it out of a book.

The best advantage you can have is working with the old boys, guys that have been around before all the modern gadgets and gizmo's that make our days only partially easier and guy's that have climbed abroad.

Good luck to all,

Climb High Climb Safe

Some one sent me this regarding wages:

college trainee

16,640 - 17,420

groundie

17,680 - 22,100

tree climber

20,800 - 26000

team leader

25,220 - 30,940

manager

30,160 - 42,640

That all seems arse about face to me. I get paid managers rate to climb and I'm not even that good plenty of climbers far better than me. When I move to managerial position I expect to get paid less than I do now as a climber, this seems fair to me as the production climbers are making the profit.

Lucky for us old uns that's not the way it happens, I'd be below the minimum wage if I was paid on climbing performance.

You calling me old:biggrin: seriously though there are the old hands those that have that which can only be gained from years on the job it's an important qaulity. The fastest climbers I know are 40 plus they have the instinct and ability to make climbing look easy.
