Forestry minister, David Heath has accepted an invitation to attend the Confor Woodland Show, where exhibitor bookings have already exceeded last show’s total.

Confor’s chief executive Stuart Goodall welcomed the good news: “The show is an excellent opportunity for the minister to learn more about the industry and to meet a variety of people. I am very pleased he has agreed to attend. Preparations for the show are proceeding well and it is great to see that bookings are so strong.”

Exhibitor bookings are still coming in and the team has had to create some extra space, as numbers have already passed the total for the last show. Chloe Stockdale, who is managing the exhibitor sales commented: “Site bookings are going like hot cakes, with many regulars but also 25% new exhibitors from across the spectrum of products. It is all adding up to making a fantastic event, with something for everyone.”

There is a range of events during the two days starting with the breakfast briefing on Thursday, with an expert panel drawn from across the sector. On Friday, Sir Harry Studholme, chairman of the Forestry Commission will be presenting and available for questions. The theme throughout is Grown in Britain. The usual popular receptions will be held, as well as, a notable presentation of the prestigious Queen’s Award for industry to Euroforest. In addition, Forestry Commission England is planning informative seminars, all of which will be held in Confor’s marquee.

In the arena and around the showground, there will be a range of interesting demonstrations, including the quietly patient horse-loggers, crafts and noisier timber harvesting and forwarding. The scarily frenzied axe team will show off their incredible skills with axe on wood for the delight of visitors. There will even be a chance for visitors to have a go at axe-throwing, for charity.

The bigger and better Confor Woodland Show is enthusiastically supported by four “gold” sponsors: Euroforest, Forestry Commission England, Tubex and UPM Tilhill. Sponsorship is vital to cover the substantial costs of putting on an event of this nature and Confor is most grateful to these companies for their generous support. While a number of smaller sponsors have confirmed, there is still a good range of opportunities available for anyone interested in raising their profile.

Nick Hoare, chairman of the Confor show committee commented, “The programme is really coming together now, with two days packed with events and demonstrations. Can’t decide which day to come? Then why not do both? It’s a great networking event too and Longleat is the ideal venue, being easy to reach and such a delightful setting. We all look forward to welcoming exhibitors and visitors in September for the biggest and best show yet. And, don’t forget that members enjoy free entry each day.”
