Your comments really doesn't give a lot of confidence in his competence. Personally, I would be looking to take it back and get a second opinion.

 

One thing - how long ago did you mix the fuel, and how long ago did you fill the tank?

Hmm. That does sound odd! Is there a different repair shop or different dealer in the area? Unnecessary grinding work done, (or so claims). He did it without your permission or he's done nowt and still wants paying. One wonders what if anything, this 'dealer' actually did.

I doubt very much if he has " ground " it out . To open it out by .1 of a mm would need a precision grinder with a very thin wheel not to mention the set up . I bet he has just prised the rails apart with a screw driver in an attempt to fit a 1.6 chain in a 1.5 groove resulting in tight spots . The bloke is a muppet . He owes you a new bar at the least .

Cheers lads, he still has the saw in the shop im going in to him in the morning, i don't think he ground out the bar nose, and i don't think there was much dirt in the fins but ill check that tomorrow, im near Dublin. Will try an get some pics tomorrow.

 

Never heard of it and I'm selling bars and chains 19 years in cork, get the saw sent to Andy Walsh in liffey distributors in blanchardstown. ( husky importers) for a professional opinion.

hey, went in there this morning he had the engine taken apart, the barrel and piston is badly scored on the outlet side only. the flywheel and fins are very clean, the clutch is black. he says it was the wrong mix. i know the mix was right plus i was and still am using the same mix in my other two saws and their both still working fine.

any thoughts?

If it was an issue with the chain and bar, these parts need inspection, it is possible the chain was far too tight on the bar and that caused clutch slip hence it being black!

 

Whether this would cause engine seizure is debatable, usual suspects are no oil in the fuel, old mix, incorrectly adjusted carb or air leak.

 

Can't do much else without inspection. I guess the clutch could have got that hot it melted the crank seal but have never seen it before!

Spot on! If it's the exhaust side it's heat seizure, or an air leak. I'd love to see the crank seal on clutch side

Yes, 99.9% 0f heat seizures will be more obvious on the exhaust side as this will be the hottest side of the engine, I have seen them pick up on the inlet side as well and some spread around the complete piston but are less common.

 

The cylinder may be salvageable, personally I would take it to a reputable tech and get them to inspect the bar and chain, the blackened clutch and then remove the clutch to inspect the oiler pinion and crankcase seal.

 

It is possible the oiler pinion may have failed if the crank got that hot and this would have also caused the chain to bind in this modified bar.

 

IMO - the guy who ground the 1.5mm bar to fit a 1.6mm chain is misguided and a danger to himself and others!
