If your doing an acre or so sometimes wouldn't you be better of with a rough cut mower . I was in same situation and brought a Etesia av 51 21inch walk behind for 500 second hand .great mc for taking in woods after a bit of thinning , goes through thick long stuff in no time.

I use a 560 which is superb. The two bladed Stihl mulcher is much better than the orgegon tri blade by the way (compared them both recently). Cracking machine, very powerful but heavy. Mulches the brambles down to really short lengths and gets most of the roots out as well if you're in woodland soil.

Is the Stihl mulcher like the Oregon mulching blade with the turned down ends ?

The tri blade has mildly turned down edges and is fine. The stihl is like a mower blade ie very robust with a 90 degree turn down. It is lighter than the triblade but more robust (as less area). It holds its edge well and having done an acre with each, I much preferred the STihl blade.

The Oregon mulching blade that I use is 4mm thick and is as you say like a mower blade (2 arms ) and 90 degree turn down ends . This tri blade you refer to sounds more like a grass knife .

No it's a mulcher but because it has three blades not two they dont' turn down as much and it weighs at least 100g more. Same idea and pretty good but the stihl steel is superior.

Sounds like the Oregon one that I have is the same as the Stihl one then ......
