How does it tend, there looks to be quite a sharp bend in the rope coming off the pulley and onto the first ZZ bar?

It does self tend fine but there feels like a bit of resistance on the bottom link when using a pantin for some reason.

Do you miss the swivel on the ZZ much. I remember one of the ZZ threads about the swivel not being smooth under load. I found if more useful to be stiff but directional so that I could turn it for left or right hand use and it stayed put until moved for next position.

I had a ZZ and the swivel was part of the reason that drew me to it as with the swivel built in and using a Rock Exotica omni swivel pulley as a cambium saver my ropes were always kept nice and straight, therefore friction free (nearly!). For now threading a swivel straight onto the bridge of treemotion harness and clipping what ever to it (SJ, HC etc or ZZHC) will be sure to give me back my swiveling needs!!

Tried it SRT yet? Curious...

It will be an interesting 2014 when the rope runner is released. Its midline attachable as well......

Well I don't think Petzl will want my ZZ back now.

 

Pic 1 is with the ZZ the normal way round, button pointing inwards. It works ok like this but doesn't self tend when pulling on the tail of the rope.

 

Pic 2 is flipped over and set up with the ZZ the other way round, button pointing outwards. I think its much better like this. For a start it self tends when pulling on the tail of rope. Second, it just keeps the button away from the rope/knot. I never found it to be a problem with the original ZZ anyway though.

 

Anyway, its reversible and can be tested for preferences.

 

Its also better with the krab in the top hole but obviously that does make the knot closer to the ZZ.

 

I just wish I had a Hitch hiker now to see if thats hybrid-able too:thumbup1:

I wonder if this is how Petzl started with the concept? Bolting their ZZ bit on to an HC. Then re-inventing the wheel by designing their own pulley/anchor to avoid any patents?

If you "pulling on the tail of rope" why would it need to self tend????

 

I presume by the "tail of rope" your referring to the rope below the zz?
