Possible bad news for top handle saw users

It will be one of those rules where its a date of manufacture thing. Rather than a ban.

 

So they have to stop making them after a certain date but ones before that date can still be sold. Then they just wait for all the toppers to break and there will be no more to buy. So eventually they die out. Like a lot of old cars.

 

That's what I'm thinking anyway.

Not necessarily.

 

Some HSE stuff is retrospective, so they could outlaw the use of top handles in business.

 

As they did with chippers when they brought out the new hopper dimensions/stop bar regs, it not only applied to new chippers, but all machines used in business had to be retro fitted to meet the new regs.

 

Although 12 years after that came in there are still plenty of none compliant machines out there:sneaky2:

Surely if they want to cut down chainsaw accidents they should ban b&q from selling them? Why remove a necessary industry specific tool?

 

The problem is that H&S legislation only applies to business, not leisure or home users.
