How Much????

Business isn't easy but you will always feel better doing the jobs where you make good money rather than enough money. That goes for most people. Getting good money doesn't make you a 'rip off merchant' either. It means you've judged the situation well.

I'm not even sure the 'young lady' in the OP would be pleased that you have pointed out she had been 'overcharged'. Ask yourself, if she had told you the price, would you have just beaten it by 10% and been chuffed about the days work. If she told you the price and you beat it by 50%, do you now regret being so hasty? Let's face it, she's probably not going to sleep with you for this:001_smile: In business there's often days when you make no money. When you get the opportunity to get ahead, take it. And I don't mean ripping off the elderly- they are often vulnerable and can have mental issues. That is not nice. But if you give them a written quote and don't hassle them to accept, thats good practice.

Sorry, but I'm happy with enough, not that might not make good business sense but it suits me. As I said earlier if I can make a small profit all the better. I simply could not charge £500 for what was undertaken. As for the sleeping bit I would'nt touch her with yours:lol:

I wouldn't dream of charging £60 labour for any job, even if it took two hours. To reach a reasonable day rate I'd have to do 3 of these in a day, and that rarely happens, with travel sourcing materials, different tools for each job. Minimum I would charge would be £100 and only then if I thought there was a chance of more that day. My minimum day rate is 160 and I usually want that if I finish by lunch or not because by then the day is gone.

Well, we are 60-80euros per hour including vat for 2 men depending on the job.

Lower is its something others could easily do, higher if it requires more skill, grunt or working to special order.

To fit 6 panels like that, we would want a mornings wages so...

280euros (£240) including delivery of materials.

Regards

Ty

I hate quoting jobs if it goes well you are a rip off merchant if it goes badly your out of pocket. Often those poor old householders accept your quote because they know there are hidden problems I bet they sleep sound at night. If I am busy I estimate which is fairer as if the job flys its cheaper and if they have some surprises they pay for them. The wealthier they are the tighter they are why be embarressed about charging a solicitor £30 an hour when they charge £200 +

Charge what your conscience allows and be happy. Remeber that most jobs we do takes some skill, tools/specialist tools, transport, fuel etc, etc.

You wil not find any other industry where the work force so often undervalue themselves!

I di some work for a Property Development Co, as few years back, the Site Foreman pulled me up on arrival on first day and told me my price was too cheap! He altered it up to where he said a skilled workforce should be - 3 men, truck and chipper.

When the company when into Administration about two years ago due to the recession - they had £80 million worth of flats and houses in build or on sale, but ran into cash flow problems due to poor sales.

The Administrators sold off all the assets and charged £2 million plus for doing it.

Their admin and secretarial staff were charged at £80 plus vat per hour, the Managers £4-500 + and the Partners £1000 + plus Vat

Staggering figures and daylight robbery.

No wonder the creditors got jack!
