Heading to Melbourne in July

Hi there,

I'm planning on coming out to Australia in July. I have my chainsaw and climbing tickets I gained whilst at college and passed the course with a distinction. I have read lots about there being plenty of jobs out in Oz but I was wondering about the reality of just turning up and looking for work is it best to get sponsorship with a company or are there better routes in?

Many thanks

George

easiest way is to get ur working holiday visa which allows u to work for employer up to 6 months - better than getting sponsored right away because u don't know if u will like the company - working holiday gives u option to see the place while working - good luck with that!

I came to Perth just before new year with a working holiday visa. Made no plans before I got here and it took me under two weeks to get a job, and that was only because it was the middle of xmas/summer holidays.

I just sent out a few e-mails and waited for a reply. The first one that got back to me I now work for. Its a good mix of commercial and domestic work, climbing and mewp.

I think if you're in the country already with your visa, employers will take you more seriosly as they can call u up easily or get u to go in for an interview or trial. Just be honest about your ability.

Im not really looking for sponsorship at the moment. Im here for the experience and fancied a change from home. If you're eligable, get yourself a working holiday visa, pick a city, and get yourself out here. That would be my advice.

I really need to stop reading about how much work there is for climbers in Aus!

All I want at the moment is to climb for a firm in Australia/maybe move there if it worked out..... But seems stupid as I have just managed to get my own business off to a flying start here in rainy, over-run! England :(

HUMBUG!

Best companys are.... Tree spec, Tree tactics, the Tree Company and Reynalds trees. Google them and give em a call Also try trees r us and recovery trees. I contracted there was good fun. Stay away from the big companys mate, bad work and rubbish pay.
