re pollard it but do it better than last time round, rebalance its shape and probably take it in more so the re-gen isnt going to block out as much light the minute it resprouts!

thats my take, leaving epicormics and any sap risers that are within the line of the rounding over of the canopy.:thumbup1:

I'll put in a vote for a reduction. And a thin. Leave it some buds. Might reduce the regrowth and epicormic growth next time. Take it just above pollard points maybe. But reduce the left side anyway.

I think its a sows ear and would be hard to make a silk purse out of it, a re structure would allow a new crown to form with a good balance.

totaly understand your thinking, just wouldnt be my first choice in this case, the tree was ruined first time round.

I agree, reduce it into the first regrowth and selective thinning of mirroring shoots. You could make a new frame for the crown like that. Instead of pollarding it and it regrowing just as thick as is now in a couple of years. The poor tree has had a hard life, by doing this method you keep more stored energy, keep some ablity to photosynthesize and done right should give it a more natural appearence.
